We’ve scoured social media and the Internet this season to find out what are going to be the top festive decorating trends for 2021.

From our trawl we’ve found that gnomes (aka gonks and trolls) – a Scandinavian version of Father Christmas – which have been gaining popularity in recent years, and natural decorations are bang on trend.

We’ve analysed posts and searches throughout October and November to see what we will all be adding to our homes this festive season.

Window displays

Top spot goes to window displays. More and more people this year are planning to create one.

To get the look use free-standing decorations and lights on windowsills, with snowy transfers on panes.

Both traditional and Scandi scenes look set to steal the show, making your home feel inviting and festive inside and out.

Christmas tablescapes

To add to this, Christmas tablescapes are going to be huge on Instagram, so be sure to have some stunning decorations in place as well as a fresh, foliage centrepiece to complement your linen and tableware.

Fresh foliage wreaths are also trending this year, with everyone keen to continue embracing the love of all things natural. This trend came about last year as we all became more in touch with the natural world around us during the various lockdowns.

Country Christmases

Going by the images starting to appear on socials, country style Christmases are going to be big and traditional finishing touches are also proving popular such as nutcrackers, natural foliage, lanterns and dried oranges.

People are feeling nostalgic and harking back to happier childhood Christmases, as we build to what promises to be one of the most joyful yuletides for a long time. Making up for last year’s disappointments, when many of us couldn’t see our loved ones.

Cheeky chaps

Comfort and joy are the key drivers for this year’s celebrations. And these cheeky chaps with their big, bushy beards, pointed hats that are pulled over their eyes and their cute button noses, deliver on many levels.

Most come in traditional festive colours, red, white and green, but you can also find them wearing all sorts of colours to match your home décor.
