Hedgehog decorations

Trudy, who is our Christmas decoration buyer for our shop, shares her knowledge of key trends for the 2020 festive season.

Trudy explained:

“Felted animal decorations will definitely be popular this year. Especially woodland creatures such as mice, foxes, hedgehogs and squirrels.

“To link with the nature, stunning natural garlands made from pine cones, berries and also dried fruit and flowers look set to be fashionable too. People will be wanting to bring the outside in. We’ve all been taking a lot more comfort from the natural world around us because of the current COVID-19 scenario and we expect people to continue with this theme with their Christmas decorating.

“Another example of bringing the outside in, is that gnomes will still be on trend for Christmas 2020, but mice will be taking over! There will be a large range of mice available this year in all sorts of forms to decorate your home.

“In contrast to the woodland theme, glitter and sparkling baubles will be trending too. People will also be looking for handmade items and we predict that hand blown glass decorations will be all the rage. A blast from the past will be tinsel – it is making a comeback. Trends do come back around and this has massive retro appeal, as we hark back to the safe, simple times of the Seventies.

“As well as making your home look Christmassy, it is also key to make it smell that way to with a range of scented sticks and oils.

“People will also be keen to be as eco-friendly as they can at Christmas. As lots of wrapping paper contains plastic, a wrapping trend this year will see people using fabric to gift wrap and also brown paper, which can easily be recycled or re-used. Instead of the normal sticky tape, why not use string? And add natural decorations, like a bit of spruce from your real Christmas tree.”
